Hassan Al Shaqsi, Partner at Global Advocacy & Legal Counsel, reflects on the experiences that shaped his legal career and his approach to legal practice.

In his early career with the Dubai Police in the 1990s he experienced a defining moment when he was mistakenly arrested while protecting a family member.

After successfully representing himself before the Court of Appeal and securing an acquittal, he realised his calling was to defend others and help clients navigate legal challenges.

Drawing on both law enforcement and legal practice, Al Shaqsi explains that lawyers must look beyond the immediate facts to understand the broader context of every case. He also reflects on the landmark restructuring and bankruptcy matters that followed the COVID-19 pandemic, when the UAE Bankruptcy Law was tested on a significant scale.

Discussing the UAE as an investment destination, Al Shaqsi highlights the country’s unique legal framework, which, combined with progressive legislation, continue to strengthen investor confidence.
